The Penrith Panthers backrower seemed destined for a stint on the sidelines after a shoulder injury - he reportedly heard a crack - forced him to leave the field 15 minutes into last Friday's clash with the Gold Coast Titans.
Yeo has also battled two head knocks and had already missed a game before Friday's injury.
On Tuesday he was named to face the Sharks, however the news coincides with confirmation he will not lead the Panthers in 2019.
Instead James Tamou has been elevated from coach Ivan Cleary's leadership group.
Cleary named an extended leadership group in February which included Yeo and Tamou, as well as James Maloney, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, Josh Mansour and Nathan Cleary.
It's understood the veteran coach had always planned on naming a single captain but deemed it too early to make the decision in pre-season.
The leadership group will continue to remain in place under Tamou.
