Unisex bathrooms are becoming a more common feature around Dubbo with organisations such as, Church Street Cafe, Dubbo Alchemy, Headspace Dubbo and Anytime Fitness all including unisex bathrooms for their staff and patrons.

Alliance spokesperson Nic Steepe said all new and current organisations considering under-going refurbishments in the Dubbo area should consider a unisex bathroom option or unisex bathrooms in general.

"It's definitely a good idea to consider a unisex bathroom option as it is important to be inclusive of everyone and to acknowledge the importance of a non-genderalised bathroom for some," Mr Steepe said.

"It is creating a safe place for everyone and providing everyone with a comfortable atmosphere.

"Idealistically, I personally would prefer single, isolated unisex toilet blocks as opposed to accumulated cubicles, but I don't see the need for genderalised bathrooms," He said.

According to Mr Steepe the argument for public bathroom genderalism doesn't hold a lot of weight.

"A unisex bathroom option or alternative shouldn't be an issue among the general public, every home bathroom is unisex," he said.

"I'm not sure why anyone would be concerned what you're doing in the bathroom anyway, so it shouldn't bother anyone that a bathroom isn't labeled female or male.

Headspace Dubbo Community and Engagement Coordinator Amy Mines said that the idea of more available unisex bathroom options would significantly benefit the LGBTIQA+ community.

"Headspace Dubbo pride ourselves on an all-inclusive, safe space for the young people of our community and in particular strong advocates of the LGBTIQA+ young people," Ms Mines said.

"We are here to support them as their needs are projected to the greater community. We will always have their backs.

"So It is encouraging to see that a regional community like Dubbo is giving a platform to our LGBTIQA+ community by increasing the number of unisex bathrooms available to patrons.

Stress can heighten for some under circumstances where there is significantly more pressure on the person, such as when they're out for a night or on the town or are working out at the local gym.

Those are points Anytime Fitness eliminated when their franchise disregarded the need to allocate bathrooms based on gender.

Anytime Fitness Dubbo's East manager Anthea Patterson said that she agrees, the idea of considering a unisex bathroom is great.
