The annual Boot carnival started with a six-race meeting on Saturday and the day's racing was headlined by the iconic and gruelling Iron Horse Benchmark 58 Handicap run over 2400m.

Mulholland, who trains at the Wellington track, took out the event after Butter Toast produced a fine front-running effort to claimed victory.

Ridden by Jake Pracey-Holmes, Butter Toast ($2.80) got to the lead early on and controlled proceedings from there.

He led into the bend but the work at the front had not taken a toll, as he kicked clear late to win by three lengths from Ten Tigers ($11) and $2.70 favourite Bemboka, trained at Dubbo by Garry Lunn.

It was part of a late winning double for Mulholland, who also took out the final event, the Central West Auto Electricians Class 2 Handicap (900m).

Demonize ($1.90 favourite) was able to hold off the fast-finishing Get To The Chopper ($20), trained by Justin Stanley, late on.

Mulholland's hope and seemed set to score a convincing when we he moved two lengths clear at the top of the straight, but Stanley's galloper put up a real fight.

Demonize and Mathew Cahill went on to win the sprint by half-a-length.

Stanley filled the minor placings as Get To The Chopper finished second, ahead of stablemate Coroglen.
