A SOGGY weekend across much of the Central West has boosted rain gauges and led to a wetter-than-average month for many locations.

The cold and wet weather started on Friday night with many towns and villages receiving good downpours.
Mudgee was by far the wettest place to be during March with 140.4 millimetres of rain recorded during the 31 days. This was well above the long-term average of 55.5mm.
Lithgow was also very wet last month with 108.4mm of rain, which was also well above the March average of 83.9mm.
Young also received very good rainfall during the month with 95.8mm recorded, well above the usual 49.5mm the town receives during the month.
Oberon also received very good rainfall during the month with 89.6mm recorded, well above the usual 65.5mm the town receives during the month.
There were many other locations to record above average rainfall, including: Bathurst (74.0mm compared to an average of 55.7mm); Cowra (57.2mm to 40.4mm); Grenfell (49.0mm to 48.7mm); Nyngan (51.5mm to 41.8mm); Oberon (89.6mm to 65.5mm) and Wellington (71.4mm to 50.7mm).
Despite the good March rainfall, much of the region remains in drought, that is except for a small area around Bathurst which has now been declared non-drought by the NSW Department of Primary Industries.
