The School of Rural Health took the students to places of interest, such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service base and Dubbo Hospital, as well as for a night out, to encourage them to spend a year of their degree in a  regional city.

Second year student Bridget Addis said she was surprised by the size of Dubbo.

"I'm from rural Western Australia so I moved over here last year to do my degree and I'm pretty set on getting back to the country. I've not seen much of rural NSW so I thought I'd check it out," she said.

Ms Addis was especially interested in RFDS because it had helped a few family members.

"I think it's something so easy to forget when you're somewhere like Sydney and you have access to everything at the snap of your fingers. I'd really like to be a part of getting healthcare to people who don't have easy access to it," she said.

Tour organiser Kiffin Miller said the goal was to show Dubbo had everything Sydney did, only smaller.

"A lot of the students have never been past Nepean, they think it's a long way out of Sydney, so this gives them a chance to see what it's like in rural Australia," Ms Miller said.​
