This season's RSL-Whitney Cup has been anything but memorable for the side which was defeated in the past three grand finals, with zero wins recorded heading into the final day of the regular season.
But Saturday does offer the chance of a breakthrough win, with Souths heading into day two of the clash with Rugby in the better position.

After posing 190 on day one last week, Souths' Scott Tucker jagged four wickets late in the day to leave Rugby reeling at 4/24.
A win won't stop his side from claiming this season's wooden spoon but Souths' Angus Norton said it can still have an impact on the club.
"It would definitely be good to finish on a high and we're playing for pride, too," he said.
"You don't want to go through a whole season and not win a game. We want to take something out of it and something to build on for next season."
Teenager Jimmy Kuntze helped put Souths in a strong position last week, scoring his maiden half century.
He is one of a number of youngsters who has taken their chance and shown real development this season and Norton is hopeful they can have an impact on Saturday.
"It would be good to see some of our young guys do something with the ball, too," he said.
"We can get another building block going into next season."
Glenn Shepherd (5 not out) and Aidan Bennewith (0 not out) will resume the chase for Rugby from 1pm at No. 3 Oval on Saturday afternoon.
The match will be the only RSL-Whitney Cup contest played on Saturday.
The other games were both completed on day one last week, with Newtown and RSL-Colts scoring convincing wins over CYMS and Macquarie respectively.
The season is over for Macquarie while Colts and CYMS have a week off before meeting in the semi-final.
Newtown finished as minor premier and advanced straight through to the grand final.
Semi-finals will be played across both Saturday and Sunday in first and second grade next weekend.
