The federal government is giving the hospital a new MRI licence.
A MRI machine will be installed at Dubbo Hospital under stage four redevelopment.
Federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton announced the licence at the hospital on Thursday morning.
"Once up and running the MRI will deliver an estimated 3354 Medicare-subsidised services to locals annually as a result of this licence – saving lives and reducing healthcare costs,” he said.
Mr Coulton said currently patients needing an MRI had to be transported by ambulance or private vehicle "elsewhere for the service".
He said patients from Dubbo and across Western NSW would soon be able to "access life-saving" scans at the hospital for the likes of cancer, stroke, heart conditions.
