It's nice to be green, but have we considered the starlings?

If an idea by the mayor is found to be feasible, then trees could line the middle of Talbragar and Bultje streets, as well as the corner of Wingewarra and Bligh Streets around the perimeter of the car park.
Trees missing in Macquarie Street would also be replaced.
Now, we are all for more greenery in the city - it makes things cooler by giving us a little more shade on those hot summer days, parking space won't be impacted and it's going to look really good.
But, have we considered the starlings in this project?
A walk down Macquarie Street recently found there weren't many clean seating options available in various spots, where the birds had decided to use the toilet.
Bird poo doesn't really go too well in the main street for many reasons, and we would be a little concerned that lines of trees would just attract more birds to the area, and with those birds there would be a lot more poop, spread out to surrounding streets.
Perhaps, of course this has already been considered, we can't say as we aren't horticulturalists or gardeners, and perhaps the trees that are being looked at won't attract the birds to the other streets around the city.
But, if that's not the case, then it's probably something that needs to be considered in the planning phase.
The starlings have long been a problem in town - with numerous discussions at council on ways to get rid of them, and some trials conducted including birds of prey and sonic nets.
But alas they seem to be back again this year and with a quick walk down Macquarie Street you can pick the areas they are congregating.
We will be keen to see the report come March meeting time when locations, type of trees and the cost will be discussed.
