Macquarie scored 352 on day one of their clash against Souths, outplaying and outlasting a stretched Souths' bowling attack that saw captain Mitch Bower take on a monumental workload - 26.2 overs.
And while four of Souths' batters got starts on day two at Victoria Park No 2 Oval - Jimmy Kuntze (47), Adam Wells (35), Bower (20) and Matt Finlay (18) - no one was able to match Edward Haylock's performance from the previous weekend.
The Macquarie skipper had taken to the crease at the third drop and dug in, anchoring the innings for almost four hours to pile on 126 runs in Macquarie's innings.
The Blues had also managed to build a number of strong partnerships, namely Ryan O'Connor (64) and Haylock for 119, and Bradley Westcott (46) and Haylock for 84.

Even Macquarie's lower order dug in, with two partnerships of more than 40 runs, and one of 33, to extend the target.
By contrast, Souths' batting line-up had little serious firepower, with Kuntze and Wells the only ones to put up any real resistance.
Patis tore through the Hornets' tail, claiming 5-33 from just 5.3 overs, including the crucial wicket of Adam Wells.
The Blues' deeper bowling line-up was on full display, as no one bowled more than 14 overs - half of Bower's workload the week before.
Neither side is in contention for a finals berth, sitting fourth and sixth on the RSL-Whitney Cup ladder.
Souths still have a chance to end the season on a high as they face the fifth-placed Rugby next round, while Macquarie could upset the second-placed Colts if their run of form continues.
