Orientation Week began at the campus on Wednesday with an opening ceremony and campus tour. The students were also taken bowling and finished off the evening with karaoke at the Amaroo Hotel.
Orientation Week coordinator Samantha Murphy said the introductory week combined information with fun.
"It's good seeing everybody new and fresh and full of ambition," Ms Murphy said.
There are about 70 students starting Charles Sturt University Dubbo this year. It's an increase from last year, partly due to the university running a Diploma in General Studies for the first time.

Orientation Week coordinator Tayce Grosser said Orientation Week was designed to ease the new students into their study.
"This is the one time you get to see everyone. We don't see a lot of nurses or general studies students but this week we can introduce ourselves and help the new guys and meet people we haven't met before," Ms Grosser said.
The Dubbo campus is also trialing a new three-day timetable from Monday to Wednesday.
For those who stay on-campus, they now only need to pay for the nights of the week they stay.
Ms Grosser said it would be especially beneficial to the mature-aged students with children or those in the workforce.
Ms Murphy, who is also the Student Representative Council president, said Orientation Week would wind down on Friday. The week would finish with some social sport and live music from one of the students.
Classes for the students will begin on Tuesday, March 5.
