The bowling club has started a $6 million upgrade this month, which will increase its floor space.
Elevators and a lift will be added to the front entry in stage one of the project.
Dubbo-based contractor David Payne Constructions will then turn its attention to internal refurbishments, including larger kitchen and bistro areas and the addition of a cafe, club management reports.
Chief executive officer Rod Firth said there was “definitely” potential to employ more people when the project was completed.
“Not only will we have a larger kitchen, we’ll have a larger bistro area, seating area, and a function area,” he said.
“So the potential to increase the staff is there.”
Board chairman John Herring was looking to the future.
“...even though there’s been a few issues in the club industry locally, just of late, this club, Club Dubbo, has been very strong with its profitability,” he said.
“I think it’s got a great board, and the board works very closely with the CEO Rod Firth, who’s got over 30 years’ experience in the clubs industry and I think that’s gone a long way to making sure this club remains viable.
“And certainly right now, in the times that are prevailing here in Dubbo and the western area and in fact the state, the profitability of this place is extremely strong.”
The sport of bowling will continue uninterrupted while the construction is taking place in the coming months.
