With work to start immediately on the planning and design of the building, it's going to be a boost for the community no matter which way you look at it.
The joint project has seen council provide the land and the NSW Government provide the funding for the facility.
It will mean local jobs as the training facility is built and further employment down the track as police officers arrive to undertake their training.
In the past officers have had to travel large distances to complete their training at facilities outside the western region.
Now, it will be able to be done right here in Dubbo, with specific training for officers in areas such as rural crime that impact many of the districts across this region.
It will mean police officers have expert advice, guidance and training to take their level of professionalism up another notch, and they won't have to go far from home to receive it.
And it means more police on our streets if needed.
Western Region Commander Assistant Commissioner Geoff McKechnie said officers training at the facility would be able to be deployed if needed to assist in local operations.
"This means more permanent police positions here in Dubbo," he said.
"We believe this facility will lead the way in NSW."
We're hoping the new facility sends a message to those looking to do wrong and break the law within the community.
Dubbo MP Troy Grant said during the announcement the extra police presence should send a message to "all crooks in the area, that it is time to leave."
We're hoping they get the message.
