The Dubbo Elders branch threw their support behind the Royal Flying Doctor Service on Friday when it hosted a fundraiser barbecue.

The aim was to raise funds for Australia's aeromedical health care organisation. Elders have come on board this year to become a national sponsor of the RFDS and the local branch decided to hold the barbecue fundraiser. RFDS marketing and education Penny Watts said the support from the local branch was wonderful.
"It's great to have organisations like Elders to be supporting us in our fundraising. In their clientele, they do work out in a lot of rural areas so they see some of the benefits and the issues that people do have in healthcare…," she said.
The RFDS relies on donations and support from people.

"Fundraising is a big part of our organisation. State and Federal government funding can only go so far….," Ms Watts said.
"We couldn't do it (provide healthcare services) without organisations like Elders, without volunteers, without donations."
A big focus for the RFDS this year was mental health.
"But we're not just about emergency retrievals, we also do dental clinics, mental health clinics… patient road transport…," Ms Watts said.
For the barbecue fundraiser, a number of local businesses also came on board to provide products for the day, including Farmers Bakehouse donating break for the sausage sandwiches and the cake.
"It's absolutely wonderful to have that local support," Ms Watts said.
"And people really do support us and each other in local and rural communities at the moment. I think that's becoming a lot more prevalent with the drought, we really see that..."
