At 9.56pm on Sunday, officers attached to the Orana Highway Patrol stopped a white Holden Rodeo utility due to an expired vehicle registration.

When police spoke to the male driver they allege he stated he did not have his driver's licence on him.

"A check revealed that his P2 provisional licence expired on February 29, 2016, having previously being suspended due to fine default since November 2015," officers said in a statement.

"A check of the vehicle found that the registration plate displayed was for another motor vehicle (misleading plate) and this plate expired in March 2013.

"Further checks on the vehicle showed the motor vehicle's correct registration expired back in October 2016."

Officers then asked the man why he was driving an unregistered vehicle that was displaying misleading plates.

"He stated 'I still have the right to free movement and choice'," police said.

When conducting further checks, the Orana officers discovered the motorists had an expired firearms license and due to having a firearm registered to him police were required to seize the firearm.

"Shortly after, police attended an address in North Dubbo and seized a rifle, ammunition and the expired firearms licence," officers said.

The driver was issued a number of infringements.
