While the club’s first grade side fell from top spot after losing to Newtown with a vastly under strength side, the Colts second-graders edged out the Tigers.
Graeme Morton’s 44 was vital in the win at Lady Cutler 1, he top-scored as Colts posted 149 and then Newtown was dismissed for 134.
Stalwart opening bowler Geoff Wheeler was also crucial, he bagged 3/14 from eight, while Matt Hull (3/25 from eight) was the standout in a losing Newtown effort.
CYMS moved within striking distance of the top three with a crushing win over Souths.
Sam Knaggs (3/17), Campbell Watts (3/26) and James ‘Busta’ Nelson (2/18) all performed well with the ball as Souths was dismissed for 127.
The run chase was all over quickly as Connor Watts (40) and Heath Larance (37) added 64 inside nine overs before the Cougars ultimately won by six wickets.
Greg Rummans had earlier made 36 for Souths before being brilliantly run out from the deep by Nelson.
The final match of the round saw third-placed Rugby score a comfortable win over a battling Macquarie.
After winning the toss and batting, Macquarie dug in and got itself to 1/46 after 20. But rather than kick on from there, the Blues collpased.
Glenn Shepherd (3/14), Mitch Rosenbaum (2/5) and Josh Connolly (2/12) combined knock over Macquarie for just 75, with Brenton Morgan’s 25 the top score.
Nate Ambler then dominated the run chase, finishing with 44 not out as the target was reached inside 16 overs.
Luke Carman (2/17) chipped away for Macquarie in the loss.
Rugby remains three points ahead of CYMS.
