headspace Dubbo’s Youth Reference Group (YRG) has been running since 2015 and since then they have organised and assisted at a host of youth-focused events and sessions across the city.
headspace is hosting a free pizza night on February 21, with young people encouraged to come along and bring a friend to find out more.
Community and youth engagement co-ordinator for headspace, Amy Mines, said the group gives young people the chance to make a difference in their local community.
“We’re looking for people aged 12 to 25 years,” she said.
“We’re after young men, particularly aged 18 to 25, Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islanders, culturally and linguistically diverse, and also LGBTIQA+.

“We’re after young people who would like to be a voice for other young people like themselves.”
Ms Mines said some of the things already in the 2019 calendar for YRG members were volunteering roles at: music festivals, the Macquarie Mud Run, Youth Week and PRIDE March.
YRG members also have the chance to run other activities in the centre for young people.
“We value their opinions and contributions,” Ms Mines said.
YRG members can also receive free training through headspace in media, public speaking and mental health literacy.
“Come along and have some input into what the centre looks like, how it feels and help us organise youth-led events,” Ms Mines said.
“There’s opportunities to come out to schools and help deliver mental health literacy programs.
“We’re really keen for anyone from 12-25 [years], we want to make sure all young people are represented.”
Ms Mines said the volunteering role would provide endless opportunities and it not only “looked good on your resume” but would assist participants with their personal development.
The pizza night will be held on Thursday, February 21 at headspace Dubbo at 23 Church Street from 4-6pm.
Spartans Pizzas have come on board and are kindly donating pizzas for the night.
