A VOLUNTEER firefighter has been charged with high range drink driving while on-duty near Mudgee.

About 6.45pm on Wednesday, February 6 emergency services were called to a house fire at Mount Frome.
“Acting on information from fellow members, police attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District attended the scene and spoke to a 54-year-old man who had exited a fire vehicle,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“The man, who is a volunteer firefighter, was subjected to a roadside breath test which returned a positive result.
“He was taken to Mudgee Police Station where he returned an alleged breath analysis reading of 0.200.”
This incident occurred when firefighters were called to a house fire on Rocky Waterhole Road.
Fire and Rescue NSW Duty Commander Mick Johnston was among the crews who attended the blaze and he confirmed that firefighters from the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) also attended the scene.
“Upon arrival they found a two-storey residential place with the top storey fully involved with fire,” he said.
“It took a good hour to get the fire under control.”
Inspector Johnston said during the fire, two RFS firefighters were also stung by wasps as they helped battle the blaze, they were subsequently treated by paramedics on scene.
The RFS firefighter who returned a positive breath test was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice for high range PCA and he is due to appear at Mudgee Local Court next month.
His licence has been suspended.
