Speaking to media in Hamilton, New Zealand ahead of a speech to the country's centre-right National Party on Thursday, Ms Bishop said she had no plans to bail out of politics.

"I am the pre-selected Liberal candidate for the seat of Curtin; it's my intention to run," she said, declining to elaborate when asked if her intentions could change before the election.

Ms Bishop also rejected current polls putting the coalition behind Labor, saying they were too far out.

Asked whether Mr Morrison was the right person to lead the party, she said only "yes".

"My ambition coming into politics was actually to be a foreign minister and I have achieved that, so my aspirations have been fulfilled and I am now the member for Curtin," she said when asked about her aspirations.

The appearance follows speculation over whether the former Liberal deputy leader, entering her 21st year in parliament, would recontest her Perth seat and after reports of a a similar declaration while speaking to media in Hong Kong last week.

Ms Bishop resigned from the government front bench after Malcolm Turnbull was toppled as prime minister and her bid to replace him as Liberal leader fell short.

Mr Morrison said this week Ms Bishop had not updated him on her plans since she quit cabinet, at which time she planned to go to the polls again.

Ms Bishop said she would be using her closed-door speech to the National Party, a sister party of the Liberal Party, to discuss issues facing conservative parties around the world, including trade conflict, Brexit and a deficit of public trust in politicians in some countries.
