Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews from Dubbo and Delroy were called to a property on the corner of Wattle and O’Donnell streets in West Dubbo at 8pm on Monday following reports of a yard fire.
FRNSW Station Officer Mick Medlin said two crews from Dubbo station and one from Delroy were called to the scene.
“On arrival they found a grass fire adjacent to an unoccupied house,” he said.
“It had spread into the house and under the roof void.
“Crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly and with minimal damage.”
This was the second blaze in just a few hours at the property after firefighters were called to another grass fire at 4.50pm.
“We’re assuming both fires have been deliberately lit, with the second one causing property damage,” Station Officer Medlin said.
Orana Mid Western Police District officers attended the second fire and it is now under investigation.
This blaze comes following a string of deliberately lit fires across Dubbo, including two separate incidents on the Australia Day long weekend which left two homes and a shed damaged.
A home on Colombia Drive was left severely damaged following a suspicious fire on January 29.
On January 30, firefighters were called to a suspicious fire on the corner of Armstrong Crescent and Myall Street after a shed was set alight. Just a few days earlier firefighters attended the same property for a house fire that is also suspected to have been deliberately lit.
There have also been a number of grass fires in Dubbo that NSW Rural Fire and Rescue crews say were deliberately lit.
