After growing up in Dubbo, the well-known singer said when asked to perform the anthem he wanted to make his country proud, while also ensuring both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal sides of his family were supportive of my decision to perform the song.
“Everyone was supportive because they all know I wanted to recognise and acknowledge the survival of Aboriginal people. I am a proud Australian who has been blessed to have a rich cultural history.
“Our ancestors fought for our survival and Aboriginal people have continued to do so ever since.
“It is with this determination I too want to continue to survive, prosper and grow emotionally, culturally and spiritually.
“It is truly an honour to have been gifted the opportunity to learn the Eora language and to share it with Australia.”
