TAFE NSW regional general manager Kate Baxter said the TAFE study predicted growth in full-time employment opportunities due to the current skills shortage, aging population and large-scale investments in the region.
“The Dubbo and Orana region is experiencing a shortage of local, skilled workers in a number of areas including aged and disabled care, pre-primary school teaching and childcare, construction and hospitality,” Ms Baxter said.

“Our population is aging and projects like the RSL Lifecare $12 million nursing home development and Dubbo City Regional Airport $17.5 million upgrade will continue to generate increased demand for skilled workers – key factors that will open the doors to many exciting potential employment opportunities.”
TAFE NSW is hosting an InfoFest this week for members of the community to explore course and career options.

The Dubbo InfoFest activities include: campus tours, career advice, information sessions, and demonstrations about early childhood education and care.
“TAFE NSW offers a range of qualifications across industry growth areas including nursing, aged and disabled care, community services, early childhood education, building, carpentry and bricklaying – just to name a few,” Ms Baxter said.
She said TAFE NSW was Australia’s largest education and training provider and would continue to innovate and invest in courses to meet the skill needs of the region.
“With more than 1200 face-to-face and online courses available for 2019, and with current and future job prospects for Dubbo and the Orana region looking bright, I encourage the community to visit TAFE NSW to find out how you can upskill or reskill to pursue employment opportunities,” Ms Baxter said.
TAFE NSW delivered the skills that drove a strong economy and helped individuals, enterprises and industries to adapt and thrive, she said.
More information on the courses, as well as the Dubbo InfoFest, is available at the TAFE NSW website.
