In January 1939 Dubbo residents suffered 10 days straight of daytime temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, reports Weatherzone meteorologist Graeme Brittain.

The city is again facing days on end of extreme heat but they are unlikely to match the 1939 event.
“It appears that this current spell is going to last seven days, two just past and five further days of above 40 degrees,” the meteorologist said on Tuesday morning.
“So it doesn’t look like it will surpass the 1939 record.”
But the meteorologist said the city was on track to have the “longest spell of above-average temperatures in the summer months” of December, January and February by the end of the week.
On Tuesday Dubbo was on course for 23 days straight of above-average maximum temperatures.
“In 2017 there was a similarly long spell of 22 days,” Mr Brittain said.
On Tuesday Weatherzone was predicting a top temperature in Dubbo of 43 degrees followed by 45 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday, 44 degrees on Friday and 41 degrees on Saturday.
It reports that the city’s record maximum temperature for the first month of the year is 45 degrees, recorded on January 12, 2013.
Large parts of NSW and the ACT will experience severe heatwave conditions this week including Western NSW where Bourke and Wanarring are headed for a peak of 47 degrees.
The nights will provide little relief. Minimum temperatures in Dubbo are predicted to peak at 28 degrees on Thursday, likewise Bourke 31 degrees and Wanaaring 33 degrees on Friday.
