BCF Dubbo store manager, Shane Glynn, met with event organiser’s and said “it’s an absolute pleasure to support our local OzFish chapter in their 10th year and help them to continue to improve the health of the local waterways”.
With the event being born out of some big sky dreaming by local Inland Waterways OzFish volunteers 10 years ago, their vision to improve the health of the river soon became a powerhouse fundraising initiative that has seen over half a million dollars raised, hundreds of thousands of fish stocked and in recent times large scale habitat projects unfold.
The group has also been nationally recognised for its River Repair Bus project, that has seen work for the dole participant’s plant 7,000 trees on the Macquarie River, and remove over 150 trailer loads of rubbish.
Last year, the 9th annual Lake Burrendong Easter Fishing Classic attracted bigger crowds then ever seen in the history of the event, and smashed every single fundraising record set by the not for profit weekend. Glorious, glass out conditions set in for the entire weekend, making for ideal family camping weather that saw a small tent city emerge around the waters edge for the three day event.
Cricket score like catches were certainly not the norm for the weekends fishing, however some huge Yellow belly well over the magical 60cm were caught and released.
The event will boast a huge array of prizes with donations already rolling in. Over 100 sponsors contributed to the Easter Fishing Classic in 2018 and the volunteer committee hope to surpass that figure in its 10th year.
