The first-place CYMS suffered a bonus point defeat at the hands of RSL-Colts, who had been sitting equal second going into the weekend.
Meanwhile a rampaging Newtown Tigers handed Rugby a double-bonus point defeat, catapulting them into outright first on the ladder.
But it’s still tight at the top, with just five points separating the top three and only a single point between Newtown in first and Colts in second.
“We knew it was a big game for us,” RSL Colts skipper Marty Jeffrey said.
“We knew that we had to switch on, especially after a disappointing loss on Friday night, to turn around and put that behind us and just worry about what was in front of us and I think everyone executed what we wanted to really well.
“That puts us in second place and gives us an extra win over CYMS as well, so later on I think that is going to be very big.”
