The new mayor has acknowledged the tireless work of Cr Wilson, who has announced that he will not seek re-election to Warren Shire Council at the September 2020 local government elections.
Cr Quigley has described Cr Wilson as an “exceptional” leader.
“The stability that having a long-term mayor provides has meant that council has been guided from being one under some financial stress to one of being in a strong financial position,” Cr Quigley said.
“It also ensures a degree of consistency with forward planning and with interactions with both state and federal governments.”
Cr Quigley said his predecessor was “extremely well respected in all spheres of government for his conscientious approach to issues”.
“In all deliberations he has been a forthright advocate for the residents of Warren Shire Council and without him, much less would have been achieved,” the new mayor said.
“On a personal level, Rex has been a mentor and has taught me much about how local government should operate and how we as a council can achieve great outcomes for our community by working as a single cohesive unit.”
Cr Wilson has been a councillor on Warren Shire Council for more than 35 years, 30 of them as mayor.
Health issues prompted his retirement as mayor in late 2018.
