Mayor Ben Shields said the awards honoured the region’s highest achievers and recognised community representatives that displayed outstanding citizenship.
“A vibrant community relies on the dedication of volunteers who continuously go above what is expected of them in the interests of making the community a better place,” he said.
“There are also people in our region performing at elite levels in their chosen field who deserve to be acknowledged by their community.
“The application process is straightforward and I encourage all residents to nominate someone they believe deserves this recognition.”
At Dubbo the categories are Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year, Young Sportsperson of the Year, Services to Sports Award and Cultural Person of the Year.
The 2019 Australia Day Award categories for Wellington are:
• Citizen of the Year
• Young Citizen of the Year
• Senior Citizen of the Year
• Community Service or Achievement Award
• Sportsperson of the Year
• Junior Sportsperson of the Year
• Community Event of Year
