The New Zealand gelding timed its run perfectly, coming home a nose ahead of Also Cool and Bjorn Baker’s Perigord, both of whom were in and around the front of the pack for most of the sixth race at Towac Park.
A hard race for Orange trainer Michael Plummer’s Pujols wasn’t able to translate into a placing, finishing in sixth after running third most of the race.
Cameron Crockett continued a stellar week for the Crockett family on Tuesday as Reprimand stormed to a win from barrier three at Towac Park.
Just two days after mum Cheryl took home the Gilgandra Cup, the Cameron-trained five-year-old proved too strong in the Train 365 Benchmark 66 Handicap.
Reprimand led for nearly the whole of the 1000 metre race, holding a lead of three lengths with a couple of hundred metres to go and holding off a fast-finishing Alvin Purple, while Escebee and fourth-placed Gladfly were neck-and-neck for third.
Meanwhile, Con Karakastanis’s Fleeting Princess was able to cause a massive upset over favourite Larynx after the latter was trapped on the rail for much of the 1280 metre feature.
The Brett Thompson-trained Larynx was a $3.20 favourite ahead of Plummer’s Bush Rambler – who the Orange trainer had touted as his most likely ahead of the meet – but the result was never in doubt.
Bush Rambler led for a large part of the race on the soft track, but faded in the sprint to the finish.
