Walgett Shire Council provided the update on Thursday afternoon to its earlier urgent public notice but it came with further advice for households.
“Repairs to the pump have now been successful however engineers say it will take some time for pressure to return to full capacity,” the council said in a post to Facebook.
The earlier breakdown was due to a “control board failure”.
Council general manager Greg Ingham had said then that due to the critical lack of water in the reservoir, the raw water in Walgett would be switched off until the reservoir was able to maintain a level that met the demands of the town’s residents.
