A run of extremely hot days for children out of school and the public has seen a “couple of hundred” swimmers of all ages converge on the complex most afternoons.
The crowd at “the pool” includes a more-than-usual number of people from outside the city, reports duty manager Matilda Munn.
“It’s definitely busier when it’s hotter,” she said.
The influx of people has particularly affected the complex’s canteen.
“The hot food, the ice cream, the drinks, they are just buying everything,” Ms Munn said.

A dust storm on Monday required extra cleaning by staff.
Ms Munn said the complex closed as the “dust storm sort of hit us”.
Staff later got into the water to clear debris and an automatic cleaner used nightly did overtime.
“We had to hose down the pavers a few times to get it off,” Ms Munn said.
