The 12-day police operation saw double demerit points in place for speeding, seatbelt, mobile phone and motorcycle helmet offences.

In the Orana Mid Western and Central North police districts the following motorists were caught out by officers.

At 2.24pm on January 1, a 31-year-old Cobar male was stopped by highway patrol officers on Rankin Street in Cobar for a random breath test where he returned a positive reading. He was then arrested and submitted to a second test which returned a reading of 0.057. The driver was issued with a court attendance notice.

At 5.10pm on January 1, a 30-year-old Cobar man was stopped by highway patrol officers on Woodiwiss Street in Cobar for a random breath test. Checks on his licence revealed it was suspended. Police issued a court attendance notice 

At 10.40pm on January 1, police were patrolling Moonagee Street when they stopped a vehicle for a random breath test. A 34-year-old man was arrested after he returned a positive reading. He was then taken to Nyngan Police Station when he submitted to a second test which returned a reading of 0.092. The man’s licence was suspended.

At 2.40pm on January 1, a 29-year-old Wellington man was who was driving on Merrilea Road in Dubbo was asked by police officers to take a roadside drug test. The driver returned a positive sample. He was then arrested and taken to Dubbo Police Station where a second positive sample to meth was obtained. Results were submitted and officers are waiting for laboratory analysis.

At 12.45pm on January 1, a 30-year-old Broken Hill man was stopped on Kidman Way in Bourke by highway patrol officers for random breath test. Checks on his licence revealed it was disqualified until 2023. The driver was issued with a court attendance notice.
