That is what will take place in Tuesday’s Kate Smith Memorial Gold Cup as Justin and Ashleigh Stanley try to snare the honours in the feature of the Gilgandra Jockey Club’s meeting.
Narromine trainer Justin has entered 10-year-old Wollartant in the 1550 metres Benchmark 58 race.
He will be looking for the Volitant x Creative Chimes gelding to go one better than his second placing at Dubbo on December 10.
Wollartant has had two prior starts at the Gilgandra track, the most recent of which was a third placing in the 2017 cup.
His sister, Bathurst jockey Ashleigh Stanley, will saddle up on Trust Me Bill for Gilgandra trainer Leo Harland.
The 19-year-old apprentice will be chasing the eighth win of her career aboard the gelding she has already ridden to three thirds and a pair of seconds.
The $14,000 feature honouring the long-serving secretary of the Gilgandra Jockey Club jumps at 4.56pm, with husband John Smith to present the trophy to the winner.
The club’s Anne Hall admitted New Year’s Day would be a bittersweet one for Smith, as he marks a birthday on the same day as honouring his late wife.

But she said everything was set for a great day, with hoses, misting spray, a temperature controlled bar and plenty of drinks and water on hand to cool horses and spectators inside and out.
“There’ll be a couple of vets on-site to look after the horses … we do everything in our power to have the facilities for the horses to keep cool and the stewards also watch that too,” Hall said.
Prizes are on offer for the summer fashions on the field, while the children will have plenty to keep them occupied with a jumping castle and water slide.
“We’ve been working hard and we’ve got lovely shade adn the lawns look great at the moment and the track looks good too,” Hall said.
“People come out and socialise and even if they’re not great racegoers, they like to socialise and let their hair down.
“Hopefully we’ll start the year off with a bang!”
The gates open at 12pm with the first race jumping at 2.21pm.
