A low-intensity heatwave will commence on Christmas Day, before turning into a severe heatwave on Boxing Day.
The mercury will soar to 35 degrees in western parts of the region – including Cowra, Dubbo, Forbes, Parkes, Wellington and Young – on Christmas Day.
It will be a tad cooler in Mudgee (33), Oberon (32) and Bathurst (31); while Lithgow and Orange should reach a top of 29 degrees.
From Boxing Day onward, however, the mercury will soar even higher with many locations to hit the high 30s.
Then, from December 27-27 the temperatures will hover around 40 degrees in many parts of the region.
