Retailers have reported the busiest time of the year for them has been, well, super busy.

David Haylock of Uncle Pete's Toys said locals are buying a good mix of traditional and new toys this Christmas.

“The Transformers are very popular, especially with the new Bumblebee movie happening at the moment,” he said.

“Nerf guns, they are always in the top ten sellers and anything in the Little Tikes brand and especially the Cozy Truck they are right up there amongst the most popular gifts to give.”

Mr Haylock said simple gifts like the Phlat Ball and Slime roll out the door at Christmas time.

“The Phlat Ball never ceases to amaze me, it’s a pretty simple fun toy that transforms from a flying disc to a ball when thrown, and Slime is always a big seller, it sells all year,” he said.

“The KumiKreator is popular this year; young girls like it because it makes it easy to create friendship bracelets, the refill packs sell well too.”

Target department manager Sarah Berryman said Hatchimals and the PJ Masks range are the two most popular toys at the Dubbo store.

“Anything Hatchimals are popular with the five to 12 age group and the entire PJ Masks range are being snapped up by parents and grandparents,” she said. 

For those who like to hark back to a simpler time, Lego and wooden toys are still proving to be a favourite to put under the Christmas tree.

“Our Melissa and Doug wooden toy range is a big seller and the most popular choice in that range this year has been the latches barn,” Mr Haylock said.

“What has taken the world by storm at the moment is the Beanie Boo toys, they are soft animals like unicorn’s that are full of glitter, so when you brush them, they change colour.

“Of course Lego remains at the top of any bestseller list, the sets that Lego do, like the big Star Wars ones, they are expensive, but they still sell out, it is one thing you can count on, Lego will always be popular, and Christmas time will be busy in a toy store.”
