1. Taronga Western Plains Zoo
Zoo Adventures Little Keepers Program is a fun and educational day for children between 5- 12 years. Children interact with zoo animals and the environments they live in.
When: 15th- 25th January 2019. Cost: $35 per child per day, bookings essential
2. Dubbo Aquatic and Leisure Centre (DALC)
With the recent addition of the Splash Pad, DALC is the perfect place to cool off these summer school holidays. This facility includes two waterslides and an inflatable playground, both available for hire.
When: Open hours Monday- Saturday 530am to 630pm, Sundays 10am- 6pm – Cost: Apart from a range of price deals, 6 rides of the waterslide is $3. The inflatable playground is $120 for an hour.
Pool manager Nicholas Wilson said to remember, “the Splash Pad as an inclusion to pool entry”. The Splash Pad is equipped with a slide, sprinklers and big blue bucket, and will have kids bursting with enjoyment.
3. Cooking Classes at the Dubbo RSL Club
Cooking Classes will be held at the RSL Club Dubbo throughout the month of January. Depending on the date of attendance, kids will learn to cook their own Pizzas, ANZAC biscuits or Lamingtons.
When: 9th, 16th and 23rd January 2019 – Cost: $8 per class for members, $13 per class for non- members, bookings essential.
4. Dubbo Westview Drive in
A great place to take the family during the holiday period is the drive-in cinema at Dubbo Westview Drive in. There will be a display of iconic Christmas movies to music classics throughout the holiday period.
When: 21st- 23rd December 2018 (Christmas movies), and 4th- 5th January 2019 (Music classics) – Cost: $40 per car with a max of 7 people, purchase tickets online
5. Adventure Land Yacht and Kayak Hire
Either adrenaline fuelled or slow paced, explore the tranquil Macquarie River within the seat of a kayak or yacht. Adventure Land Yacht and Kayak Hire is a splendid way to teach the kids to watercraft.
When: Available at Ollie Robins Oval on weekends 9am to 5pm – Cost: 1 hour single kayak $20, 1 hour double kayak $30, 1 hour Land Yacht $25.
6. Kids activities at Macquarie Regional Library
Hosted for kids aged 5-12 years old, the Macquarie Regional Library has a range of hands on activities as a part of their ‘Curious Creatures’ program. Kids are able to focus their inner creativity in activities like engineering, art and Lego.
When: Activities are carried out from the 7th- 25th January 2019 – Cost: Free, no bookings required
7. Royal Flying Doctor Service Visitor Education Centre
Inspire the kids this school holidays with a display of the wonderful work of the Royal Flying Doctor Service. The facility educates its visitors through stories and history, film and artefacts.
When: Open hours Tuesday- Saturday 1pm to 4pm – Cost: $4 adults, $2 children under 15 years old
8. Activity Day at Dubbo PCYC
PCYC Dubbo is hosting fun filled days for kids from Kindergarten and older. The either half or full day program takes participants through the activities accessible at the PCYC facility, such as Hall Sports, Gymnastics and Dance.
When: 2nd- 28th January 2019 – Cost: $15 half day, $30 full day, bookings essential
Dubbo PCYC manager Mark Nuttal said participants must be members to enjoy the school holiday program. However, “it is only $10 a year to join”.
9. Dubbo Escape Room
Opening earlier this year, the Dubbo Escape Room features two thrilling puzzle rooms. Participants are required to solve problems and riddles in order to win… or even escape!
When: Holiday open hours Monday- Friday 12pm to 9pm, Saturday 1030am to 9pm – Cost: Prices range from $30- $40 depending on the number of people participating
10. Tracker Riley Cycleway and Bike Hire
Give the kids some fresh air with a serene bike ride on the Tracker Riley Cycleway, extending between the CBD, Dundullimal Homestead via the Taronga Western Plains Zoo along the Macquarie River.
When: Bikes are available to hire, daily, from Dubbo City Holiday Park 9am to 4pm – Cost: Full day $15 per person, 2 hour ride $10 per person, Full day family $50 (2 adults and 2 children)
Dubbo City Holiday Park also said the additional cost of $10 for any extra equipment such as baby seats. Helmets are included in original bike hire prices.
