The Hornets had battled for much of the summer up to this point but their fortunes changed at Lady Cutler 3 on Saturday when scoring a 21-run win over CYMS.
It hadn’t looked positive early as CYMS newcomer Jack Busch knocked over Greg Rummans (5) and Tom Stimpson (3), but Justin Knudsen (36) and Hugh Ridley (21) helped rebuild things.

But the real damage came late on as returning Souths veteran John Colwell hit 49 to help his side post 6-183.
Busch was the best of the CYMS bowlers and finished wth 2-25 from his eight.
Opening bat Ben Williams was the only batsmen to really show some fight in the chase, his 45 the only score of double figures in the top seven.
At 7-91 it seemed the game would be over quickly but hard-hitting Kyle Larance (35) and youngster Fletcher Hyde (14) showed some fight before the Cougars were ultimately dismissed for 162.
Colwell capped off a fine day with 3-15 from eight overs.
RSL-Colts ensured they head into the Christmas break in top when downing Newtown by five wickets on Saturday.
Preston Beauchamp (3-15), Jakke Gardiner (2-15), and Sam Campbell (2-26) helped restrict the Lachie Reid-led Newtown for 9-142.
Reid made 79 of his side’s total but ir proved not enough as Colts reached the mark with relative ease.
Matt Keenan (58 not out) led the way in the chase while Josh Smith (33) and Nathan Jones (32) chipped in.
Rugby edged past Macquarie in an entertaining clash at Lady Cutler 4 on Saturday.
After opting to bowl first, Macquarie gave away a 34 sundries as Rugby posted 6-178 from its 40 overs.
Sundries proved to be the second top-scorer after Brett Paul (43).
Mark Scullard (3-30) was the pick of the Blues attack and finished with 3-30 from his eight.
Ian Marchant gave Macquarie a real chance in the chase but when he departed for 76 the end came quickly.
Marchant was the only Blues batsmen to go past 20, while Troy Tracey (3-23) and Adam Richards (3-25) were the pick of the bowlers.
