Councillor Greg Mohr has requested the plan be developed, following calls from the Wellington community. It will look at the town entrances, main routes, shopfronts and the CBD streetscape.
“This master plan should have been done years ago but unfortunately it wasn’t. It’s one of the things we should have done the first time this council sat but unfortunately it wasn’t done,” Cr Mohr said.
The councillor said he didn’t want to see the town left behind.
“We need to bring Wellington up to a standard. We need to change not just the face of Wellington but we need to bring it up to the cute little town that it is,” he said.
“The town hasn’t had a great image over the years but we can change that.”

The master plan will outline the future direction council will take for the development of the town. It will be developed in consultation with the community.
Deputy mayor Anne Jones said she had been pushing for a plan for years.
“In the last two-and-a-half years nothing has been done as far as the entrances to Wellington are concerned. Through the period of administration and since we have been elected I have been pushing the entrances because they need to have something done,” she said.
Mayor Ben Shields said the plan would give council the necessary direction to beautify the city.
“By developing a master plan, everyone will have the chance to provide ideas, and they will also have a clear understanding of the steps that council will take to improve the town,” he said.
Councillor David Grant said he didn’t want the master plan to simply be a token gesture.
“We need some action out of this. I really look forward to seeing what comes out of this and what we can take Wellington to and where it will be in the future,” he said.
“The town has so much potential and with Dubbo and Wellington working together I think we can make it a very strong region.”
