Rose, in partnership with Aidan Bennewith (52), who also played an innings peppered with boundaries, took the game away from Macquarie Christies Crackerjacks after the game was evenly poised with Rugby at 2-53.

Christies Crackerjacks batted well in its 20 overs scoring 5-180.

Justin Gavin played an almost flawless 50 while veteran Ian Marchant hit the Rugby bowlers to all corners of Victoria Park Oval in his 47 not out.

Macquarie’s Jeremy Dickson thought 180 would be enough to win.

“I was pretty happy with 180 as a total; we thought it was a good competitive score,” he said.

“Our two openers putting on 60 odd set us up well and Ian Marchant coming in at three and batting through the innings had us set to bowl with some confidence.”

But Rugby had other ideas according to president Steven Wheeler.

“We go into these games to win and we knew if we kept our heads down we could get the runs we needed,” he said.

Openers Ben Wheeler and Nathan Munro set a cracking pace off the opening four overs. Both batsmen seemed intent on running as little as possible and scoring runs through fours and sixes.

Rose and Bennewith formed a solid partnership that sealed the game for Rugby and has them full of confidence for the rest of the Megahit competition.
