It was clear back in July what the community wanted, and now it’s even clearer, with 700 surveys completed, and almost three-quarters of respondents saying they wanted an indoor pool.
And we’re now hoping council dives in deep with the plans and funds available to build it.
It seems the most popular option was for a whole new 25 metre indoor pool and warm water exercise pool to be built – how good would that be for the swimmers in the community in the middle of winter?
However others also thought it would be good to enclose the current 50 metre pool, or build a 50 metre pool indoors.
The kiosk was another must, with the public preferring the new indoor centre included a permanent kiosk, and there being a pop-up space where the existing kiosk is located.
It would mean provisions for further events at the facility and allow for diversity in food and drink provided for those using the facilities.
Disability access was also a talking point for many respondents, and the layout which needs to give staff the best possible view of the pools.
With the facilities at the RSL out of action at the moment, the need for an indoor swimming space has arisen several times over the past few months.
While it is easier over the summer months for our swimmers to dive into the pool, it would be a lot better for them with an indoor space during the winter – at the moment, there isn’t one in town.
The plan, which is expected to cost between $11 and $13 million would be well worth the investment for the Dubbo community and would allow competitive swimmers to train all year round.
It would also give recreational swimmers a space to use in the winter as well.
The indoor pool idea has been welcomed by Dubbo resident Colby Hitchcock, who has three children in the swimming club, saying it would allow her children to swim all year-round.
It would mean Dubbo children would be much more competitive on the swimming scene as well – not having to train harder in summer to make up the time they can’t train in the pool during winter.
