Third-placed Newtown will play fifth-placed Macquarie at Lady Cutler No 2 Oval with Newtown’s batsmen full of confidence after a big victory last week.
The clash may be a test of the mettle of both sides.
Newtown skipper Mat Skinner is hoping his bowlers can contribute to a big win by scuttling a weakened Macquarie batting line-up on Saturday.
"I think the key to beating Macquarie this year is just limiting the damage that the two Medways and Jason Green do, they rely on them a bit to score runs,” Skinner said. “I've heard one of the Medways [Ricky] is out which will hurt them so if we can get them out for minimal runs we should go alright against them. Ed [Haylock] has got a broken hand in a cast, so that's both of their opening batsmen out."
Macquarie was bowled out for 113 last week and club spokesperson Jeremy Dickson said they would be aiming to at least bat the 40 overs this week.
“We know we are up against it, but that is our goal,” he said. “We know it’ll be a tough game but we are in it win it and we won’t be handing it to them, they’ll have to earn it.”
