It was a heart-warming scene outside the Parkes Ambulance Station when Darcy Emmanuel personally thanked the town’s paramedics for doing all they could for his brother when he passed away earlier this year.

Phil Emmanuel was one of the greatest lead guitarists the world has ever known and was in Parkes staying with little brother Darcy on May 24 when he suffered a sudden asthma and heart attack.
Family friends John Mason and Maureen Farr were with Darcy when Phil collapsed and came to his aid.
Paramedics respond to extreme emergency cases every day and Darcy said he wanted to show his and his family’s appreciation for the work they do, continue to do and what they did that day for Phil.
He had a frame especially made for the Parkes paramedics that included Phil’s name, a graphic of Phil and his signature.
Darcy also had a small plaque engraved on the frame saying “To our unsung heroes NSW Ambulance – 2018 with gratitude from the Emmanuel Family”.
“It’s just gratitude for what they did,” Darcy said.
“They were there that day, that’s what mattered.”
Parkes Ambulance Station Officer Geoff Lovegrove said the frame will hang in the station’s main office.
“It’s an honour to receive this kind of recognition from the Emmanuel family,” he said.
“It’s a credit to Parkes paramedics for the countless lives they save each year.
“Unfortunately we were unable to save Phil on this occasion due to his heart attack.
“I want to thank Darcy for every effort he gave us in performing CPR on his brother.”
Geoff said Darcy’s actions were a good example of how important it is for families to learn CPR.
“Anyone over the age of eight can start to learn,” he said.
“Let’s give our loved ones, relatives and friends every chance of survival by knowing how to perform CPR.
“We’d also like to remind people that with summer upon us that it’s important to keep an eye on our children as they’re swimming in the pool and to put your mobile phones away.
“Let’s not have a distraction.”
