Enhancing our class based learning, we also offer a wide range of authentic experiences, and our supportive and nurturing pastoral care system develops the whole person, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
During the 2018 school year St John’s Primary continued its journey as a Professional Learning Community school. The Professional Learning Community culture is an ongoing process in which educators work collaboratively, in recurring cycles of collective inquiry and action research, to achieve better results for the students that we serve.
St John’s Primary strives to work in partnership with our families, recognising that parents are the first educators of their children, Our school is rich in tradition and history, and will always strive to live by the schools motto ‘Christ is my Light’. We look to the ideal example of Jesus Christ as a way to lead a truly fulfilling Christian life.
St John’s Catholic Primary School (SJP) is a Kindergarten to Year 6 Catholic school and forms part of the Bathurst Diocese. Our enrolment for 2018 exceeded 430 students with over 40 full and part time staff who catered for students educational needs and helped live our vision which is “to change the world through our faith in Jesus who is our light and hope.’’
As part of this vision we strive to encourage and inspire creative thinking and a passion for life-long learning. We do this through authentic and reflective learning experiences, along with individually focused education from passionate, dedicated and highly qualified staff.
We have a culture of positive achievement in which all students are expected to do their best, and student success is celebrated. Individually or as teams, high standards are always our goal be that academically, on the sporting field or in an extensive array of curricular and co-curricular pursuits such as debating, music, eisteddfods and drama productions. This was certainly the case in Term 3 when we produced an amazing production of Disney’s “The Lion King Kids”, featuring every single student of the school.
During 2018, our continued focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), grew with a program implemented for all of our students. This STEM program, combined with our roll out of Chromebooks and iPads, ensures our students are ‘tech ready’ for the challenges of 21st century eLearning.

St John’s provides a quality Catholic education that develops the essential life skills, social capabilities and responsibilities, and relationships that allow our students to reach their full, individual potential. Our inclusive school community enables a sense of belonging and encourages participation, involvement and dedication.
We strive to live the example of mercy set by the Sisters of Mercy, and are fortunate to have a close relationship with the Parish of St Brigid’s and our school chaplain, Father Greg Kennedy. In 2018 we commenced an outreach program with the Masonic Village, where each of our grades visits the centre to share stories, enjoy a cuppa and a chat, and we look forward to expanding these visits in 2019.
