Kindergarten would remember celebrating the first 100 days of their school life, Year Six would recall attending their overnight excursion and comradery built over years of primary school, while we as a school remember 204 full days focused on students and their learning.
The Orana Heights debating team, made up of students in Year 5 and Year 6, argued successfully with other students from across our region, and our keen spellers showed their knowledge of the English language by performing strongly against other schools.
The wider community joined us to attend a range of fun activities at the school such as the Easter Hat Parade, Grandparents Day, Book Week Activities, NAIDOC celebrations and Education Week.
In August, the whole school had the opportunity to participate in our orchestrated performance “Musical Mayhem” where every student was encouraged to take to the stage. The theme was well known musicals, new and old, and the audience tapped away to songs from hits such as The Greatest Showman, Mary Poppins, Lion King, Grease, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Wizard of Oz and High School Musical. The performance was a great success and many of the songs are still stuck in our heads as we often hear students humming the tunes as they move about the school.
Orana Heights has a strong welfare system which is driven by our PBL values and expectations. All students and staff are guided by these values and demonstrate them on a daily basis in the classroom and in the playground. Students are regularly acknowledged for all their hard work and positive.

Our biggest fundraiser for the year, organised by the Student Representative Council (SRC) along with staff assistance was the “Buy a Bale” program which helped to raise money for drought affected families. This hay day was an enormous success with generous donations being received by our school community, while the students enjoyed learning about aspects of agriculture and dressing up in “farm-style” clothing.
The SRC also runs discos throughout the year which are enjoyed by all year levels as they are an opportunity for students to socialise outside of school hours and show their amazing dance moves.
The staff and community of Orana Heights Public School strive to provide quality education and opportunities for all students in a caring and creative environment, and we look forward to another successful year in 2019 at Orana Heights.
