DNPS aims to develop students’ values and skills for responsible citizenship and life-long learning. Programs are carried out within a caring and educational environment by a staff of dedicated teachers with positive child-focused aims. The welfare of all stakeholders including students, staff and parents/carers is considered with the aim of “Skill with Honour by being Responsible, Safe and Respectful learners.”
This year has been another busy and successful year at DNPS retaining the majority of our existing staff, which always makes it easier to commence a new school year, but also picking up some fresh faces throughout the year, including a number of temporary staff picking up permanent positions.
Infants’ classes were engaged in the Early Action for Success initiative and enjoyed learning to spell by applying ‘Speech, Sound, Pics’ methods. Math lessons were hands on, relevant and well planned out by the teachers, in a supportive and resource rich environment.
Primary students employed ‘Daily 5’ and explicit teaching in their classes, and all of these programs saw students achieve excellent academic growth in 2018. Employment of additional SLSO’s meant students received additional support and more individualised learning was provided, while new initiatives this year were the inclusion of MiniLit across the school, revamping the MultiLit program and the addition of an Instructional Leader Aboriginal.
On the sporting field we were proud to have students represent the region at District, Western and State carnivals. We were also fortunate to have visiting NRL and cricket clinics at school, along with participation in PSSA and state knockouts, and daily Fundamental Movement Skills sessions taught in class in accordance with the curriculum.

Our whole school production of ‘Shrek Rocks North’ was a huge success, with 3 shows needing to be scheduled and over 450 parents/carers/ school community members attending, while DNPS maintained our senior choir in 2018, both independently and with the support of the Macquarie Conservatorium. The program was expanded to include an Infants Percussion Group which has been highly successful. We have also celebrated special occasions such as Book Week, Easter Hat Parade, NAIDOC and other special days.
We have also continued teaching Wiradjuri language along with our Sistaspeak and Brospeak programs, which teaches Aboriginal students about traditional heritage and culture and about future career pathways.
