Look Good Feel Better coordinator Christine Horder said she was proud to accept the 2018 Dubbo Day Tony McGrane Award on Friday.
The accolade, named in honour of the former mayor of the city from 1991 to 1999, recognises people who go well beyond what is expected of them within their paid employment and make significant contributions to the community through their dedication to their jobs.
Mrs Horder has been a driving force behind Look Good Feel Better since its inception 19 years ago.
I’m really proud, I feel there are so many people deserving in the community that give so much in so many ways to volunteering.

The free program teaches cancer patients how to manage appearance-related side effects caused by treatment, holding workshops covering skincare, make-up and headwear.
Mrs Horder’s time receiving treatment for cancer in Sydney introduced her to Look Good Feel Better and she spoke to a friend about starting it at Dubbo.
The response from patients has inspired her continuing involvement.
“It’s the smile we get on faces of the people who come to our workshop, participants,” she said.
The owner of a beauty business, Mrs Horder has been to every program workshop, leading the team in the make-up display, the award citation reads.
“Christine’s caring and nurturing way has made every participant feel at ease,” it said.
The Look Good Feel Better champion encouraged people to consider lending their time to helping others.
“I just think if you’re looking for something to do, somewhere to offer time I just think volunteering is a great way to go,” Mrs Horder said.
“It puts a smile on a lot of faces, and it’s very rewarding.”
The Dubbo Day Awards are presented annually to mark the anniversary of Dubbo's gazettal as a village on 23 November 1849.
The awards were presented by Dubbo mayor Ben Shields at a ceremony attended by current and former councillors and community members.
“Christine is an extremely worthy recipient of this award,” Cr Shields said.
“Over the last 19 years she has run in excess of 114 workshops for those suffering the effects of cancer, she is an amazing woman who juggles volunteering whilst running a very successful beauty business in Dubbo.”
