After Yeoval product Chris Tremain’s stunning day one effort, in which he took 5-13 to help rout Tasmania for just 81, it was actually two Bushrangers’ rookies that eventually guided the side to a six-wicket win in the JLT Sheffield Shield’s fourth round.

The Vics knocked up 282 in reply to the Tigers’ lowly first dig, before the hosts promptly piled on 476 in their second, Matthew Wade century the catalyst for his side setting Tremain and his troops a challenging 276 for victory.
Wade’s 137 was superb and helped leave Victoria a little over a day to secure the win, the Bushrangers kicking off Tuesday’s fourth and final day at 0-12.
That became 1-26 then 2-58, before in-form opener Marcus Harris (67) and veteran Cam White (41) pushed the score to 143 before the former was dismissed.
When White was removed just runs later the Vics actually looked a little vulnerable.
Cue the rookies.
Matt Short and Seb Gotch, with less than 30 First-Class games between them, showed composure beyond their years as they added an unbeaten 131 for the sixth wicket, eventually securing the victory about 40 minutes before stumps.
Short finished 64 not out and Gotch was on 66 when the victory was brought up, the win keeping Tremain and his Victorians unbeaten and on top of the competition’s ladder, they lead Western Australia by a touch over 10 points.
Outside his incredible first-innings show, Tremain snared 2-118 from 31 overs in Tasmania’s second dig, and made just five with the bat in his only stint at the crease.
The Victorians travel to the Gabba to take on Queensland in the fifth round, starting on November.
