The Dubbo side taking part in both the Brewery Shield and the Western Zone Plate may be a development team being groomed for higher honours, but the desire to collect some silverware this season is alive and well.

Dubbo crushed Mudgee in the opening round of this season’s Plate, a knockout competition featuring sides from the smaller centres in the region.
Dubbo takes part with a development side, made up predominantly of younger players, and they showed their potential at No. 2 Oval on Sunday.

A strong all-round performance with the ball saw Mudgee rolled for just 112 and Dubbo openers Jake Settree and Campbell Rose then got their side off to a flyer in reply.
Setree fell for 44 but Rose remained unbeaten on 42 as the target was reached inside 17 overs.
“It was really good to see some of the younger guys step up with some of our other key players out,” captain Angus Norton said, the side losing a number of players to the Western Zone Premier League side playing at the same time.
“We’re hoping to achieve big things this season and after a comprehensive win overs a pretty handy side we’re looking to being some silverware home this season.”
Rose was a star in the victory, the Rugby teenager continuing what has been a fine start to the new campaign.
He was the only player in his club side who fired in Saturday’s heavy loss to Newtown, making 40, and on Sunday he showed his all-round qualities.
So often a wicketkeeper, Rose proved he has more strings to his bow when taking catches, pulling off a direct hit run out, and taking a wicket when give the chance to bowl. He then compiled a fine 42 not out in the nine-wicket win.
“We had to bat for a 10 over session for lunch and I told the boys (Settree and Rose) that we were only chasing about 110 so they didn’t need to do anything silly,” Norton said.
“I would have been happy with 0-10 from 10 but they came off at 0-70 so I was pretty happy with that.
“He (Rose) is playing out of his skin at the moment and he got a few runs against a strong Newtown attack and the backed it up. It’s looking like it’s all just clicking for him.”
Norton also had plenty of praise for Settree, whose chances at CYMS have been limited so far this season. He made the most of his chance on Sunday, taking it to the Mudgee attack form the get-go.
Earlier in the match, Adam Coughlan had top-scored for Mudgee with 25 from the middle order.
However that proved nowhere near enough and he became one of two victims for teenage spinner Mitch Ashford.
RSL-Colts seamer Rhys Beauchamp was the standout with the ball, stepping up taking three wickets while Callum Watson also bagged three scalps.
