Book-lovers bought more than 7000 novels at the book sale.
More than 1000 people walked through the library doors to rummage through titles, DVDs and CDs, old computers and other items.
Macquarie Regional Library manager Kathryn McAlister said there was a fantastic turn out from the community.
She said the annual book sale allowed the public to purchase books which have been deselected from regional library service collections.
“We use guidelines and criteria to deselect them from our collections, to ensure they are no longer relevant, superseded and we had multiple copies, ” Ms McAlister said.
“However, there are a lot of interesting books that are still relevant to readers, still useful and people gain knowledge from them.
“There’s no better way to offer them to community members for their use … it’s cost-effective purchasing for the community.”
Ms McAlister said library staff didn’t have a quiet moment with residents taking full advantage of the bargain price.
“The $5 per box of books price was very popular with customers, the boxes of books were going out left right and centre,” she said.
“They were very happy with the quality of the books.
“I expect there will be a lot of people doing a lot of reading over the next coming months.”
