The best-of-the-best were named in composite sides earlier this week and they’ll as a curtain-raiser to the Classic Wallabies’ encounter with the Central West Barbarians at Endeavour Oval, and based on the two line-ups, it’s set to a be cracking affair.
The Northern outfit will include a number of Geurie’s premiership-winning side along with a handful of Molong Magpies, Trangie Tigers, Yeoval Eagles, Coolah Roos and Wellington Redbacks.
On top of the clubs that played in last year’s Southern Division – the competition then known as the GrainCorp Cup – the side for Saturday’s exhibition has been altered to also include a handful of Young’s best, with the Yabbies rejoining Central West in 2019.
Last year’s Northern Division player-of-the-year Josh Peffer is one of the Magpies named in the former side, along with Brodie Travis, Zac White, Hugh Westcott and Charles Iffland.
They’ll line up alongside the likes of former NSW Country Cockatoos gun Filisione Pauta, former Dubbo Kangaroos ace Moa Kavuaka and ex-Narromine gun George Quigley in a Northern outfit that is expected to enter the clash as favourites.
The Goats combination will undoubtedly be one of the main things to watch in the game.
During the side’s unbeaten charge to the 2018 premiership the Geurie side produced many moments of sheer brilliance on the park.
Pauta will wear the number 10 jersey around on Saturday and guide the side around the park while Goats teammates Kavauka, Bryson George and Harry May will provide a real spark in the backline.
Adding to the sizable Geurie contingent in the side is fellow Goats Suia Sinisa, Vili Manu, Kieran Simpson, Nash Forgione, and Dylan Dorin.
The Oilsplus Cup exhibition kicks off at 2pm at Endeavour Oval, following a number of junior clinics, a Golden Oldies game and trials for Central West’s women’s New Zealand tour side.
The main game between the Classic Wallabies and the Central West Barbarians kicks off at 4pm.
Tickets to the event are $15 pre-purchased from the Classic Wallabies website, or $20 on the Endeavour Oval gate.
