Walgett resident David O’Brien held a Keno Spot 8 winning entry that scored $39,654.20.

Speaking to a Keno official, Mr O’Brien said he didn’t discover his windfall until the next day when he took a break from work on the farm to check his ticket.

“I put this ticket on the night before and I still had games left on it to play. I only checked it on the iPad the next day while I was at work. I had to double check it again later to make sure it was right,” he said.

“It’s come in very handy. We’re in the middle of a raging drought out here. I’m a farmer so it will square a few things up and help me get ahead.”

It’s not the first time the farmer has won.

“I’ve been playing the same eight numbers for a fair while. There are just numbers I picked and I keep using them. Once before they won me a good prize – a few years back.  This prize is a bit better though,” Mr O’Brien said.

Mr O’Brien purchased his entry at the Walgett District Sporting Club. Three weeks ago, another patron of the Walgett District Sporting Club won a Spot 7 prize of $9,777.

Walgett District Sporting Club manager Natalie Thurston said it was exciting to see one of her patrons snare another big Keno win.

“People are up for a bit of good news and it’s great to see two big wins here in two weeks,” she said.

“Maybe we’ll see another one soon. They say these things come in threes.”
