Entries flowed in to this year’s Australia My Country competition, run by the Dubbo RSL Sub-Branch.
Dubbo North Public School’s Arayana Cochran and Ballimore Public’s Juanita Curnow were chosen as this year’s winners.
The pair read their compositions at the Remembrance Day ceremony.
Juanita, a Year 4 student, said she wrote ‘A New Home’ after reading a lot of books about war, and particularly about people from Vietnam.
She said she had been really surprised and excited her work had won.
Year 5 student Arayana entered the competition for the first time with ‘The Kokoda Track’.
An RSL sub-branch representative made special mention of Ballimore Public for being “quite outstanding every year, and this year is no different”.
The sub-branch invited schools who wished to participate to get in touch.
